The Kennedy family is a Mormon family that have been Indian traders in Northwest New Mexico, Farmington, since the 1880's. This was collected by Roy Kennedy in the 1890's and remained in the family until August 2014. Roy Kennedy handed this down to his son Walter Kennedy who ran the Dinnehotso Trading Post until his retirement in 1982. "I meet Walter Kennedy once up in Farmington in 1994. He built his own museum on his property that included mostly textiles but a fair grouping of old pawn jewelry as well. He died in 2006. This piece was purchased from his wife who is still alive". Only through many years of ware does a necklace exhibit such sensational deep green patina and worn soft edges.
